Grayton Beach State Park Named A Best Beach in US by Dr. Beach

Each year, Dr. Stephen Leatherman (aka Dr. Beach) ranks the nation's best beaches using 50 criteria, including water and sand quality, and announces his coveted list of the top 10 beach in the nation each spring. The local community was excited to learn that Grayton Beach State Park was among the Top Ten Best Beaches in the United States for 2016. 

This is the second time Grayton Beach has earned this ranking (the first in 1994). Previously, beaches could only earn this title once, however, recent changes in the "Best Beaches" critieria pertaining to safety and management were signficant enough to allow all beaches to be considered again. 

Grayton Beach State Park is is unique due to its ecological diversity, and enjoys a prime location nestled along the banks of one of South Walton's rare coastal dune lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf-front park includes miles of sugar white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Big sand dunes dominate the landscape and the park even includes a trail that meanders through the dunes providing nature lovers a unique look at what the coast looks like from within the dunes. On the north side of the dunes, Western Lake allows guests to enjoy the park via kayak, canoe or paddle board.
