Destin is the Perfect Place to Fly a Kite

How long has it been since you did something that really made you experience the pure unadulterated joy and freedom of being a kid?  If you can’t remember or it’s been way too long, maybe you should go fly a kite. Really! And Destin is the perfect place to do just that! 

Since kite flying requires wide open spaces with no trees, power lines  or roads, the beautiful white sand beaches of the Emerald Coast are the perfect location to fly a kite. Combine that with the gentle breezes from the Gulf of Mexico and you've got a perfect recipe for a day of high flying fun and relaxation.  And with a little help, kite flying can be mastered by fliers as young as four or five.  It’s a healthy, outdoor alternative to video games and cell phones.  

If it’s been a while since you’ve flown a kite, here are some tips to get you moving forward and up in the air:

• 1.      Do fly your kite on a beach or in a park.
• 2.      Don’t fly near roads, airports or power lines.
• 3.      Don’t fly a kite in the rain or during a storm.  (Ben Franklin already discovered electricity.)
• 4.      Do try to stay away from large groups of people. Your eyes will be looking up and not in front of you ... no stumbling over sunbathers!
• 5.      After you’ve re-mastered kite flying, teach a kid how to fly one; it’s a sure way to make your heart soar!
